As goes with all kinds of medicines, this biphosphonate carries unfavorable effects along with its desired benefits. However, esophageal cancer may be the adverse effect of Fosamax, hence procurement of the therapy should be done with strict adherence.

So, to prevent unwanted problems to happen, these are little reminders about your Fosamax drug. Nonetheless, you still need to read the medication guide in every bottle of Fosamax that you buy to know the latest updates about the drug. This guide however does not take the place of your doctor about your medical condition and treatment thus if you have questions about Fosamax it would be better to ask your doctor.

The most important thing you need to know about Fosamax is that the drug may cause some serious side effects. Among these side effects are:
  • Problems on your esophagus –the tube connecting your mouth to your stomach

  • Take Fosamax after you get up for the day and before taking any food, drink or other medicine since they affect the drug absorption.
  • Do not crush the tablet in your mouth.
  • Take Fosamax with a full glass of plain water only, not with mineral water, coffee, tea, soda or juice.
  • Stand or sit upright for not less than 30 minutes after taking the tablet or oral solution of Fosamax. Moreover, do not take any kind of food or medication like antacids, calcium and other vitamin supplements  or drink anything except plain water.

Fosamax also slows down the healing of the jaw. And I've heard of several people still easily breaking bones while on the medication.
